I would like to extend my condolences and sympathy to all those people who have lost loved ones in the horrible Victorian Bushfires that have claimed over 130 lives.

If you want to help people who have lost their homes, please visit the Red Cross Victorian Bushfure Appeal 2009 web site to donate money online. To keep up to date with the fires, the ABC’s Bushfire Event section is a good resource.

I’ve attached a live map showing where the fires are their current status:

I’m not sure whether any of you have noticed yet, but I have a new website and blog up at jylanwynne.com. Basically I’ve decided to change Jylanization into a blog entirely about Yeppoon and my area, and use jylanwynne.com as a personal blog with web design posts and things like that (phew, over and done with!). That means I’ll be able to tweak each website until they’ve reached their full potential, which I can’t do at the moment.

I have some cool things planned for each blog, so make sure you come by often!

Now, about subscribers and what you can do. I’ve made a list below showing your options:

If you want to keep subscribing to both blogs: Do nothing! I’ve already used Yahoo Pipes to merge the two feeds of Jylanization and Jylan Wynne together, so that means everyone subscribed to both blogs (as well as email subscribers) will stay subscribed.

If you want to only subscribe to Jylan Wynne: If you came here just to read about web design stuff, etc, then just unsubscribe from whatever you’re currently getting my posts from, and resubscribe to feeds.feedburner.com/JylanWynne/. Keep in mind however, you won’t get any pretty pictures of Yeppoon to look at .

If you want to only subscribe to Jylanization (or Yeppoon Blogging): Just unsubscribe from the feed you’re currently getting my posts from and resubscribe to feeds.feedburner.com/YeppoonBlogging/. Remember though, I might suddenly move to Borneo and you wouldn’t know!

I hope I’ve covered everything here. I might do a post on how I did the design and everything for jylanwynne.com, but in the meantime go and check it out, then please tell me what you think! I will start right now on changing the branding for Jylanization, see you .

Yeppoon finally got what has been needed for years. Yesterday on March 3rd, a new shopping centre by the name of Yeppoon Central finally opened on the roundabout corner of Park Street, Tanby Road and Old Rockhampton Road. There are 3 major shops and restaurants, Big W, Woolworths, and McDonalds, as well as 30 other smaller shops.

A list of the smaller shops is below.

SK Hotels Bottle Shop

Yeppoon Central Meats

Supercuts

Sanity

Mad House

Nextra Yeppoon Central

Amcal Max

Mystique Jewellers

Yeppoon Travel World

Jay Jay’s

Xodus

Forever Young

Rockmans

Crave

Sunny

Payless Shoes

Strandbags

EB Games

Leading Edge Telecom

Suncorp

Flight Centre

Lenards

Dick Smith Electronics

Donut King

Michel’s Patisserie

The Coffee Club

Origin Kebabs

The shopping centre was built on a 7.4 acre block of land. The total area of the shopping centre is 14,000 square metres while the area of Big W is 6,100 square metres and Woolworths is 4,200 square metres. There are a total of 800 parking spots, with 700 under the shopping centre and 100 outside. Both Dick Smith Electronics and McDonalds are located at the main entrance, which will be good. There are numerous entrances, including a travelator (which is like an escalator only with no steps) and a lift. The whole centre cost $60,000,000 to build and more than 500,000 man hours.

Below are some of the photos I took on the opening day.

McDonalds Yeppoon, a recent addition to the Yeppoon Central shopping centre. McDonalds opened about a week ago on the 12th October 2008.

Some of the isles in Woolworths. The colour scheme that they have used combine silver, for the walls (look right down at the far right end), and green and brown for signs.

This is looking from the balcony down to the road. The showground is just across the road. The vacant area will soon contain a McDonalds, which is going to be built soon.

The entrance to Big W. If you have got an old Big W in your area chances are you haven’t seen (or even heard about) the new logo. Now you can.

Yesterday, I launched it at http://www.organicmacadamias.net.au/.

They already had a logo, however the “organics” tagline was written in quite a nasty font. I just replaced it with the same text written in Julius. In addition to the normal static pages, PHP is also used to power the order and contact forms.

Please check it out and leave a comment with your thoughts. And remember, if you want a healthy alternative to commercially grown macadamias sprayed with pesticides and the like, buy some organic macadamias off Nutberry Organics!

As the title implies, I have my first real job at age 14, working with a web design company in Rockhampton (my nearest town). Probably the only thing different from this than from most other jobs is that I’m working from home, not at an office. Anyway, as the title says, I am working with CQ Media Group, who run both the CQ Extra newspaper and World Wide Web Design (wwwDesign).

On the 12th June, I received $150 in payment for my first project with them. To say that I’m pleased is a bit of an understatement! I hope that I’ll continue to work with them for a long time in the (foreseeable) future.
