Water Problems have been Fixed

I think that the water problems I talked about in the last post are fixed now. For a start, they brought in a huge pump from Coates hire, which is doing a very good job of keeping the water level down. More details are below.

Water Problems #4
The really powerful pump that they brought in to keep the water level down. Although you can’t see from this picture, it is almost as long as I am tall.

Water Problems #1
Here they are digging a trench around to re-route the water. Mum tells me that she was talking to the chief surveyor here and he said that they were looking for a water cable or something that they broke. Once they’d found what they had been looking for, the filled the trench in.

Water Problems #2
In this photo (taken yesterday as all these photos were) you can see the hole with almost all the water drained out of it. Now (13th November) all the water that was covering the concrete has gone.

Water Problems #3
These logs were used to bridge the creek so that the excavator could get across without making a huge mess of everything.

Roadworkers Can’t Be Happy… Water Problems

OK, I figured that its about time for an update on the roadworks. I want to focus on the large section of ground that they dug away in October. They have since poured concrete all over the bottom, but water has been pouring in from one side and filling the hole up. Below are photos with explanation captions.

Water #2
This is just a day or so after the concrete had been poured. As you can see, The only water in the area was on the left (and the right) of the concrete. The water from the right was coming in from drainage pipes that had been installed before this.

Water #3
This is looking from the opposite direction as the photo below, and you can see how full the area is with water.

Water #1
All the water gushing in from the small creek that flows just along that line. You can sort of see how they’ve tried to block it on the right, but the water has just pushed through. Just to right of this is a whole lot of really soft mud, which I nearly lost my shoe in after my leg got sucked in to about my knee (or a bit below).

Water #4
This is looking from the other side, and you can see more clearly how they’ve tried to dam up the creek.

Water #5
The slab of concrete near the bridge further down the road hasn’t been affected as much, because there is adequate drainage in the form of a pipe under the bride.

Welcome to the New People!

I’d just like to welcome the new people that have come to this blog as a result of the letterboxing that I did. On here you’ll find information about my local area (Woodbury, Adelaide Park, Cap Coast), as well as news of what I’m up to with my web design business.

My name is Jylan Wynne and you can find out more about me by going to my about page. As you can see on that page, I also run a photoblog called Contrasting Sharply.

Anyway, have a look around and if you like what you see, consider staying up to date via an email subscription or the rss feed.

Latest Update on the Roadworks : 25 October

There have been quite a few things going on over the last week or so with the roadworks. The photos below show the major things that have happened, but in addition they have been continuing on digging their trenches and then filling them in with pipes, rocks, a type of fabric and dirt (in that order). They have also been building up upon the section of the old road that starts from our corner. I estimate they have put about 40cm of dirt on top of the tar in some places.

But anyway, onto the photos.

Roadworks #1
They have dug away this large section in order to provide drainage for all the water still coming out. They have now extended it away to the left so that it connects up to the small creek that runs there. You could probably find a picture of the creek in previous posts.

Roadworks #2
The bridge has been the most interesting thing to watch. This photo, taken on the 23rd, shows how they have been putting rocks and fabric down.

Roadworks #3
A closeup of the rocks that have been put down.

Roadworks #4
This is the interesting part. Today (Thursday) when I went down to see what they’d done I found that they had laid concrete all over the fabric that had been laid. See the zoomed-out shot below.

Roadworks #5
A wider view of the concrete that has been laid down in preparation for the new bridge.

Latest Update on the Roadworks

OK, I am writing this on Monday night at 8:30pm.

Today has been quite an eventful one for the roadworks. I’ll let the photos below tell the story.

Roadworks #1
They have made a fair bit of progress on the stretch of road outside our place. For a start the level of the road has risen quite a lot and the edge (the bit that the two trees are on) has been cleared of all the logs, grass and bushes.

Roadworks #2
Further down the road the excavator has been busy at the bridge, especially at a section snug to the concrete. See the photo below.

Roadworks #4
This is the section that the excavator has been digging away at today. My dad pointed out that the foundation of the bridge appears to be an old causeway, complete with a pipe in the middle of it. Our neighbour helped to build this bridge, so I will ask him whether this is correct or not.

Roadworks #3
The orange excavator that can be seen in the distance (and also on my photoblog) dug all of this trench up to about where it is parked. At the end of this trench there is an access for trucks, and on the other side of that is another trench that is a bit wider than this one.
