Walking at the Noosa Headland National Park

While we were down in Noosa we did a few walks on the Noosa Headland National Park. At the start of the track they had lots of information signs with clever designs. There were also lots of little freshwater streams running beside and over the paths, probably as a result of the flood-inducing rain that Noosa had received before we arrived. There were great views all along the track, so I took quite a lot of those type of shots.

One of the beaches that we discovered on the walk had thousands of medium-sized smooth rocks all over it – you can see a Contrasting Sharply photo of them as well as the ones below. An amazing thing about these rocks is that they were really bouncy. I threw one of them as hard as I could at the other ones and it must have bounced about 8 times!

A Picnic at the Rydges Homestead

For our picnic location this week we chose the Homestead at Rydges, mostly because we wanted to see how the recent 3 inches (approximately) of rain had affected the wetlands. So, as soon as the car had stopped we raced across to the water-tower to see the wetlands. I was a bit disappointed because there hadn’t been enough rain to cover all the wetlands. It was a big improvement over the previous situation, however. See below for photos of the wetlands and water-tower.

Once lunch was finished, we drove the car out and parked beside the road, because whenever we go to the Homestead the walk to Rydges must be done too. On the way I saw two orange seedpods, which I thought would make a fantastic Contrasting Sharplyâ„¢ photo. However, a photo that I had taken the day before of a dandelion trumped them. Below you can see the orange seedpods.

The Dam gets Company (In the Form of a Boat)

Yesterday when Dad went to the tip in Yeppoon he brought back this old boat that he bought for $25. It was unloaded beside the shed where it lay until this afternoon. In the morning we had used a piece of cork to temporarily plug the round hole at the back of the boat, which is used to empty the boat of water. Anyway, Dad had said that after lunch we’d all try to carry it down to the dam. I didn’t think this would work (Have you ever tried to lift a boat made from fibreglass and wood?) so I looked around for something with wheels that I could slip under the boat.

My eyes immediately fell on the go-kart which was lying around. Once I’d brought the go-kart to the boat, I tipped the boat on its side so I could slide the kart in underneath it. Eventually it settled down fairly well but it was still leaning to one side and I needed someone to hold that side and stop it from tilting. Fortunately my sister came along at that moment and saw what I was doing, so I told her to come and help hold the boat. I then started pulling the go-kart with the boat on top of it down to the dam.

On the way down I picked up my other sisters, and with one on either side and one pushing from behind, we managed to run the boat almost down to the dam’s edge. Then dad appeared and helped us to push it into the water, which went fairly well except the go-kart was almost pushed in too. We then spent the next hour or so playing around on the boat in the dam. One fun thing to do was to attach a few ropes to the hook at the front of the boat and let it drift (with someone in it) to the other side, then run with the rope. The boat could pick up a fairly good speed this way.

Once we’d finished playing in it, we had to drag it up onto the bank so the water could drain out. Overall, I think 25 bucks is a good investment for days of fun!

I won the Photo Friday Oddity theme!

I am so excited because I’ve just discovered that a picture on my photoblog called Water Cocoon has been voted top of the list for the Photo Friday oddity theme. If you don’t believe me, head over to the Photo Friday archive for the Oddity winners.

For those who don’t know anything about Photo Friday, it is a weekly photo meme that announces a theme every week. People then enter photographs that they have taken. Over the weekend that the next weeks theme has been announced, people vote for who they think should win for last weeks theme. And I won. Below is the photo that won it.

Thanks everyone for voting for me :)
